Introduction:

Concluding year we reviewed the new Energy PT from Breakthrough, complete with the reels striking colored titanium deposition coating on the frame itself. Now we have had the opportunity to fully test the visitors pinnacle model, the Tour Edition PT. This model is available in both fast half-dozen.3:one and ultra fast 7.0:i gear ratios. We have aim at the new Burner 7.0:i to come across simply how hot this new flagship model really is.

Introducing the sleek new Quantum Burner

Impressions:
Kevin VanDam states "Again, Quantum has designed the ultimate baitcaster in the new Tour Edition PT. The new 'Burner' gears are perfect for my style of fishing," which is a pretty solid endorsement from the power fisherman himself. Power and speed are two things often associated with KVD, and these two attributes can also be associated with the new Bout Edition PT. The Bout Edition PT features a similar Titanium Deposition Coating every bit the Energy PT, but it isnt virtually as flashy. Gone are the multi-faceted colors, instead the coating is toned to exist a deep lustrous blue.

That's correct... blistering vii.0:1 gear ratio, and proud of it

The Bout Edition PT is available in the same speeds as the Energy PT, and comes loaded with a very similar spool and four additional bearings. But the series offers more than simply a slight bearing upgrade. At the very top of the lineup is the TE1170PT (and TE1171PT for left hand retrieve) which features a baking vii.0:1 retrieve. These Burner models feature all the latest Breakthrough technology including all metal components, infinite ACS cast control, polymer stainless bearings, and of class.Hot Sauce.

Real Earth Test: For the purposes of this review we will call our test reel the Burner. To test the Burner nosotros decided to go fishing for both largemouth and Stripes in the California Delta and the ONeil Forebay. When asked about how they came upward with the new design Quantum responded Our top pros, including Kevin VanDam, Gary Klein, Gerald Swindle, Shaw Grigsby, Dean Rojas, and Tommy Biffle, came to a production review coming together a while back begging for a super fast baitcast reel, Strickland said. Building a faster reel wasnt the trouble, but building ane that didnt lose its torque, its cranking power, was. The challenge was how to put a bigger loftier-speed gear into a compact, low contour reel similar we make here at Breakthrough. But our engineers said they could do information technology, if nosotrosd let them commencement with a bare piece of paper we gave them the dark-green light. The main goal of our tests was to encounter if this newly designed reel delivered the goods when it comes to both speed and power.

Casting: Beginning permits turn our attending to how well the Burner casts. To examine this fully we take to look closely at the reelsouth innovative ACS externally controlled centrifugal arrangement. The original concept of centrifugal braking is unproblematic. Every bit the spool begins to rotate, centrifugal force pushes the brake weights along tiny shafts to engage a brake ring, assuasive the friction created to slow the spool's revolution. The centrifugal force is the greatest at the beginning of the cast while the spool is rotating the fastest, and lessens as the spool'due south revolutions begin to tiresome. We have seen this organization, or versions of it on many reels throughout time. The biggest competitor to Centrifugal braking systems is without a doubt magnetic systems, and more recently combo systems which make utilize of both technologies.

Check out the oversized grips, much more than ergonomic than the previous generation

I of the biggest advantages of magnetic systems is the ability to arrange the system externally on the fly, the biggest disadvantage is the inability to 100% eliminate the magnetic force placed on the spool. Conversely the biggest advantage of centrifugal systems has e'er been the consequent performance and reliability, but the greatest weakness has been the hassle of having to adjust the weights past opening the sideplate of the reel. In 1999 Quantum first introduced ACS, an externally adjustable cast control organization that immune anglers to cull 0, iii, 6, or 9 brake weights by adjusting an external punch. The new arrangement used on both the Energy PT and the Burner is called Infinite ACS merely considering it gives anglers an infinite number of settings from fully free to fully on (with ix weights).

The Burner sits at a medium height on most reel seats, not particularly low just nevertheless adequate

Space ACS is adjusted via an ergonomic knob on the sideplate. The knob can be turned up and downwards apace, and our tests confirmed that only does the organization work, but it is possible to make extremely precise adjustments to the cast control system, much more then than traditional weighted cast command systems. Once I had the reel dialed in at effectually 30% I began casting. Line peels off the spool smoothly as the reel surprised me past making an enchanting whirring noise during each cast. The casting whine is beautiful, and to some extent like a slightly lower pitched Calcutta TE DC bandage. The racket emits from with Quantums unique ACS system as the weights come up into contact with the friction shield.

The entire frame features the Titanium vacuum deposition coating....even the frame undersides

Casting long with this lure is easy, and entertaining. Controlled casting is also made easy by simply turning up the cast command when tossing lighter lures, or flipping and pitching to precise targets. I was able to cast our 1/2oz test plug 100-120feet consistently with a 20% setting on the Infinite ACS. Casting is so easy that I shortly became overconfident and backed the ACS to null and attempted to try and set a tape..unfortunately a second after I found myself confront to face with the female parent of all backlashes.yep, this system works, and it works well.

So lets go to that burning recollect already...
